A customer abroad no longer has to phone five salons to find a free slot. They tell Google what they want, and Google's AI does the checking for them. In some cases it even makes the phone call.
That is not in Pakistan yet. But it shows exactly what an assistant reads about your business, and most of it is free to fix today.
What is Google AI booking for local businesses?
Google AI booking means a customer describes what they need in Google Search, and Google's AI finds local businesses, checks prices and availability, and hands over a link to finish the booking. For some services it can phone the business itself. Google announced this for the United States first. For a business in Pakistan, the job today is simple: keep your hours, phone number, services and booking link correct everywhere.
What exactly did Google announce, and when?
Four things. We read each one on Google's own pages or in reputable press.
- Booking from Search. In Google's Search post from its I/O event, dated 19 May 2026, Elizabeth Reid, Google's VP of Search, said agentic booking was expanding to local experiences and services. You share your criteria, and Search brings together current pricing and availability with direct links to finish booking through the provider you choose. That was about five months ago.
- Calls to businesses. The same post says that for select categories such as home repair, beauty and pet care, a person can ask Google to call businesses for them. It said these features would reach everyone in the US over the summer.
- Calls to check stock. Google's guide to agentic calling, first published on 25 November 2025 and updated on 24 July 2026, describes Google calling nearby US shops about toys, health and beauty products and electronics, then sending the customer a summary by text or email.
- Gemini on the phone. TechCrunch reported on 24 September 2026 that Google is testing a feature named "Call for Me". Gemini phones a business to check stock, reserve a table or reschedule an appointment. It is a small experiment for US owners of a Pixel 11 with a paid Gemini subscription.
"Agentic" is only the industry word for AI that does a task for you instead of just answering a question.
Is any of this available in Pakistan?
Not that we could confirm. Every page above names the United States only. Google's help page on automated calls for customers says appointment bookings and these calls work only in select regions and languages, and it names no country other than the US. We found no Google announcement of a date for Pakistan, so we won't guess one.
So do not pay anyone who offers to "register your business for Google AI booking". There is nothing to register for. What is worth doing is the same housekeeping that already helps a customer who searches by hand.
How does an assistant decide which business to book?
It reads what you have published. Google describes Search pulling together pricing, availability and a link to finish the booking. It cannot use what lives in your head, in a WhatsApp status or in last week's Instagram story.
Say you run a salon in DHA, Lahore. Your profile shows weekday timings, but you stay open late on weekends. Your prices are in a story that has expired. Bookings happen by direct message. A regular customer works around all of that. An assistant, or a new customer in a hurry, moves on to the salon whose details are complete.
The fields that matter are ordinary ones. Google's guide to editing a Business Profile covers main hours, special hours for holidays, phone numbers and, for some business categories, links for appointments, reservations or online orders. We explained the wider picture in our post on getting found in Google AI Mode and ChatGPT.

What happens if Google's AI calls your shop?
Google's help page for business owners explains the calls. A customer gives details such as a preferred time, the type of service and the number of people. Google then calls the business to book the appointment. It may also call to ask about a restaurant's waiting time, or to confirm the price and availability of a product or service. The page says these calls are monitored and recorded.
Three points from that page are worth remembering:
- You can say no. Tell the caller to stop calling your business, or switch the calls off in the advanced settings of a verified Business Profile.
- Google never asks for money. It says it will never ask for payment, card details or passwords on a call. A caller who wants a fee to "keep you on Google" is not Google. That scam is worth warning your staff about today.
- The call is only as good as the person who answers. The assistant asks plain questions about price, timing and availability.
Say you run an AC repair service in Karachi. If only you know the price of a standard service and which areas you cover, every call that reaches your helper is wasted. Write the answers down and keep them by the phone. If calls go unanswered because everyone is out on jobs, read our post on AI voice agents for business phone calls.
Should you spend money on this now?
Mostly, no.
- Free: claim and complete your Google Business Profile. This is most of the work.
- Free: if you already have a website, run it through our free website check to see whether the basics load properly and can be read on a phone.
- Worth paying for only when bookings are a daily headache. Say you run a pet clinic in Islamabad and your receptionist spends the morning confirming slots by phone. A simple booking page that shows free times would pay for itself in saved calls. That is one of our services, and we quote it after a short call.
- Not worth it if customers happily book on WhatsApp and you reply quickly. Keep that, and put your WhatsApp link where people can find it.
Google decides when and where these features launch, and which businesses its AI suggests. Nobody can promise you a place in its answers.
A short checklist to be ready
- Set your real opening hours, and update them for Ramadan, Eid and other holidays.
- List one phone number that somebody answers during working hours.
- Name your services in plain words, with prices where you can share them.
- Give one booking link that works on a phone: a booking page, a form or your WhatsApp link.
- Make the same details match on Google, your website, Facebook and Instagram.
- Tell your staff that Google never asks for money on a call.
- Check everything again whenever your timings or prices change.
None of this depends on AI arriving in Pakistan. A customer searching tonight needs the same correct hours and the same working link.
Frequently asked questions
Do I have to sign up for Google's AI booking?
No. There is nothing to register for and nothing to pay. Google's AI works from the details businesses already publish, so the useful work is keeping your Business Profile and website accurate.
Will Google's AI call my shop in Pakistan?
We could not confirm that on any Google page. The pages we read name the United States only, and Google says these calls work in select regions and languages. Treat it as something to be ready for, not something happening here today.
Can a business refuse automated calls from Google?
Yes. Google's help page says you can tell the caller to stop calling your business, or switch the calls off in the advanced settings of a verified Business Profile.
Do I need a website for an AI assistant to book with me?
Not always. A complete Google Business Profile with correct hours, phone number and services covers the basics. A website helps when you want your own booking page, a full price list and details you control.
How do I know a call is really from Google?
Google says it never asks for payment, card details or account passwords on these calls. If a caller wants money to keep your business on Google, hang up.
